Revive Your Locks at Home

Red-light therapy has gone mainstream, promising hair growth without a trip to the clinic.

Hair loss can be subtle, starting with just a bit more scalp showing in harsh bathroom lighting. Fortunately, red-light therapy now lets you combat this from the comfort of your own home. This non-invasive treatment is said to energise hair follicles and increase blood flow, potentially leading to thicker, healthier locks.

Five tech reviewers, dealing with their own hair loss, tested various red-light devices for 16 weeks, assessing everything from CurrentBody’s LED Hair Growth Helmet to GroWell's discreet flat pad that fits inside a baseball hat. The results were promising: new follicles sprouted and hair felt thicker.

For the most effective treatment, CurrentBody's helmet comes out on top. It offers full scalp coverage with Bluetooth connectivity, making sessions more bearable by playing your choice of audio during use. However, users noted that ear covers can be tricky to adjust and sometimes pull out hair when removed.

GroWell’s device is the most inconspicuous option, designed for daily use but allowing a rest day in between. Its proprietary combination of lasers and LEDs delivers a gentle warmth to your scalp without overwhelming it with too much power. This makes it perfect for those who prefer a less intrusive approach.

The HigherDose Red-Light Hat stands out for its effectiveness, especially for those dealing with trichotillomania or sensitive scalps. It offers a more natural look while providing the same benefits as other devices. Whether you're looking to grow your hair back or maintain what you have, there's an option that might work for you.
