Dark Matter and Solar Mills: The Daily Tech Dose

Physics shifts focus, while Kenya’s solar revolution quietly hums on.

The search for dark matter has hit a bump, with neutrinos creating a ‘neutrino fog’ that drowns out signals. Researchers are now exploring quantum sensors and even Jupiter's atmosphere to find this elusive substance.

Meanwhile, in Kenya, entrepreneurs like Milcah Wanjiru are turning to solar energy for their grain mills, cutting costs and improving profits as off-grid solar systems become more common. A quarter of the population still lacks access to central electricity, and this is seen as a route to universal access by 2030.

Despite these advances, geoengineering remains an unsolved puzzle with major practical challenges ahead.

In other tech news, the Pentagon revealed its use of AI in strikes on Iran, while Apple prepares for price hikes due to memory chip shortages. The AI industry is also facing calls from CEOs for a US-led coalition and growing concerns over gender inequality in tech.
