NASA’s Space Photo Vault: Wonder from Home

An AI sifts through the cosmos, finding beauty and mystery in every pixel.

NASA's recent mission to the moon, Artemis II, brought back a treasure trove of images that showcase Earth from incredible angles. These include snaps taken from behind the moon’s far side and selfies within the Orion capsule using everyday smartphones.

NASA makes its vast image library accessible, funded by the US government, which means most media is in public domain. However, navigating this resource can be daunting, with thousands of images to sift through.

The NASA Image and Video Library offers a wide range of content, from astronaut selfies to satellite imagery, but searching for specific items requires precise keywords. The NASA Images page is more organized but less comprehensive than the main library.

NASA Johnson Flickr provides an easy-to-navigate archive with over 63,500 photos, neatly categorized into albums. This makes it simpler to find images of particular astronauts or missions.

Finding and downloading content from NASA's social media accounts can be hit-or-miss due to platform restrictions, making the dedicated library essential for serious space enthusiasts.
