A new Airbus passenger jet has completed an ultra-long test flight between Australia and France, lasting over 24 hours. This historic journey paves the way for the world's longest nonstop commercial flights starting in 2027.

The aircraft, specifically developed for Qantas Airways' planned non-stop flights between Sydney and either New York or London, completed its first test in Toulouse before embarking on a record-breaking return flight from Melbourne to Toulouse. The journey covered 12,460 nautical miles and lasted 24 hours and 25 minutes.

Equipped with an extra rear center fuel tank capable of carrying 20,900 liters (5,521 gallons), the A350-1000ULR can extend its range by 1,000 nautical miles. This feature ensures it can cover nearly 10,000 nautical miles for non-stop flights between Sydney and either London or New York.

The Airbus A350-1000ULR is part of Qantas Airways' Project Sunrise routes, which aim to offer tickets by 2027. This ambitious project not only redefines the possibilities of air travel but also sets new benchmarks for comfort and efficiency in long-haul flights.
