Taylor Farms has expanded its recall, this time targeting jalapeño-containing items due to a Salmonella outbreak. The company pulled products like diced jalapeños and salsas from shelves in 26 states after linking them to the infected jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors.

The affected foods were sold at major retailers including Hannaford, Kroger, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart and Whole Foods. No deaths have been reported but at least 345 people across 27 states have fallen ill since June 19, with some needing hospitalisation.

Chipotle and Qdoba both removed jalapeños from their menus after tracing them to the same distributor. The FDA is still trying to establish exactly why Taylor Farms took a few days to realise its products were involved in the recall.

The Cyclospora outbreak, separate but concurrent with the Salmonella one, has been linked to iceberg lettuce from the same supplier and is ongoing.
