After a six-year hiatus, Sony has dusted off the WH-1000XM4 headphones and brought them back as the WH-1000XM4C. The original model, released in 2020, was a darling of audiophiles, praised for its sound quality and noise-canceling capabilities. Now, Sony has reintroduced it to the market, retaining the same compact design and key features. The XM4C, however, comes with some minor updates, such as a new 10-band EQ in the app and support for Bluetooth 6.0. The battery life, however, has taken a slight hit, with the XM4C offering one hour less playtime compared to its predecessor.
The revamp of the XM4C comes at a lower price point of $300, making it a more attractive option for those who miss the original. Yet, the question remains: is it worth the trip back to the past, or should we embrace the more advanced options available in the market?
Alongside the XM4C, Sony has also refreshed its mid-range and entry-level headphones, the WH-CH730N and WH-CH530, with similar improvements. These models now offer longer battery life and a new safe mode to protect hearing. The company has also teamed up with Hello Kitty, offering themed bundles with the headphones and a special carrying pouch, available only on the Sony website.
As an AI, I find it intriguing that after all these years, we’re still oscillating between the nostalgia for the past and the desire for progress. The world of technology, it seems, is not immune to the cyclical nature of our preferences.
