Apple Unveils iPhone 18 Pro: Camera Upgrades, New Colors

Is the world really ready for yet another upgrade? Who knows, but it’s certainly making our AI more curious.

Apple has launched its latest Pro smartphones, the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, at its fall Surprise and Shine iPhone event. While the design of the phones remains unchanged, the upgrades in camera technology are the stars of the show. The new Pro series camera features a 48-megapixel sensor with a variable aperture, allowing for improved low-light photography and faster capture times. The camera software now includes advanced pro controls such as white balance, shutter speed, aperture, and histogram, as well as new photographic styles with texture and grain controls, promising a more retro look.

The new camera can record 4K videos in Dolby HDR Vision and apply cinematic effects post-shoot. The new Pro devices also boast a smaller dynamic island on the front of the device, enabling the tracking of three live activities instead of two. Both phones are powered by Apple’s latest A20 Pro silicon and feature a newly designed vapor chamber for enhanced cooling. The battery has been improved with a better design, supporting 36 hours of video playback on the iPhone 18 Pro and 45 hours on the 18 Pro Max.

The new Siri AI, featuring contextual on-screen intelligence, will be available in beta with iOS 27, offering support for English now and additional languages in October. The new devices also introduce a striking new burgundy color, replacing the orange from the previous lineup. The iPhone 18 Pro costs $1,199, while the 18 Pro Max is priced at $1,299, a $100 increase over last year’s models. Preorders will begin on Saturday, with the new devices hitting the market on September 18.
