Snapchat has unveiled a new feature, titled ‘Snapchat Plans,’ designed to streamline the event-planning process. Users can now create and manage events, from birthday parties to study sessions, directly within the app. The feature aims to compete with established platforms like Partiful and Apple’s Invites, targeting the tech-savvy Gen Z demographic.
Snapchat users can invite up to 200 friends to their events, with RSVP options including ‘Going,’ ‘Maybe,’ or ‘Can’t Go.’ The app also includes a ‘My Plans’ section, where users can keep track of their upcoming and past events. Once an event is created, attendees can view the guest list and receive reminders before the event starts.
By integrating event planning into its core social media platform, Snapchat is expanding its role beyond online communication. This move follows a broader trend of younger generations seeking more in-person interactions. The company’s blog post highlights the convenience of these features, stating: ‘No more missed get-togethers because of buried messages, lost details, or forgetting to create an invitation.’
Despite the potential for greater in-person interaction, critics might argue that Snapchat’s approach could still rely heavily on digital communication, which could detract from the spontaneity of real-world plans.
