Amazon is revolutionising the shopping experience for Prime Video viewers, making it easier than ever to turn a casual flick through TV shows and movies into a shopping spree. The e-commerce giant has rolled out a series of new features that seamlessly integrate product recommendations into the viewing experience, allowing users to shop the scene with Amazon’s Lens technology. For those who missed the ‘Shop the Show’ feature, this update ensures that product recommendations are more prominent and accessible, with users able to tap into Amazon’s vast product range.
The integration of these features into the existing X-Ray experience means that viewers can now effortlessly browse and purchase related products. By pressing up on the Fire TV remote, users can launch the X-Ray experience and access the new Shop tab, which displays products related to the content they are watching. The Amazon Shopping app recognises the content and drops the user into a feed synced to that moment, enabling a seamless browsing experience. This feature, called ‘Shop the Scene’, uses Amazon’s visual search technology, Amazon Lens, to identify other products inspired by the characters' outfits, home decor, and other items appearing in the scene. While it may not always lead to exact matches, it provides a valuable starting point for finding similar products.
The ‘Shop the Show’ feature in the Amazon app is also expanding, from 1,300 to over 8,000 titles, including Prime Originals, select licensed favorites, and live sports. This expansion means that viewers can now access a wider range of product recommendations, making the shopping experience more engaging and relevant. As Amazon joins the growing trend of integrating shopping suggestions into the viewing experience, it is clear that the line between entertainment and commerce is becoming increasingly blurred.
