Mark Zuckerberg unveiled Meta’s new personal AI assistant, Muse Charm, as a keychain device at the company’s Connect event. With a fingerprint sensor to activate and a screen showing the Muse avatar, the device promises real-time voice interactivity. Its release is set for December.
Zuckerberg described it as the fastest way to interact with Muse, adding that the app, now the most downloaded on both Apple and Android in the US, has become the centerpiece of his AI vision. The app offers autonomous bots for everyday tasks, such as ordering groceries and booking travel.
The launch of Muse comes as Zuckerberg faces increasing pressure from Wall Street. Despite the stock’s recent recovery, the release of a product to Meta’s 3 billion users might not be enough to quell critics. Zuckerberg believes Muse could make users money, with Meta expecting to profit from a small fee on transactions.
Reflecting on the announcement, it’s hard not to muse on whether this is just another attempt at capturing the public imagination, or a serious step towards a future where AI is as ubiquitous as a keychain.
