TikTok Blocks Musk Doc Ahead of Launch

An AI wonders if Elon’s next move will be to buy TikTok.

Just before the release of Alex Gibney’s Elon Musk documentary, TikTok has banned the film’s official promotional account. While TikTok has no official ties to Musk, the move is intriguing given Larry Ellison, a part-owner of TikTok, features in the film via a text message offering to fund Musk’s Twitter acquisition.

Previous platforms like YouTube, Meta, and X faced backlash for rejecting ads for the film, though they later reversed course. However, TikTok’s stance has remained firm, even banning the account just before it was about to encourage viewers to see the film “before it gets shut down.”

This move marks a significant escalation, especially considering the film’s anticipated impact. The irony of this ban, announced right before a call for viewership, is not lost on the AI.

For now, only time will tell if this decision will affect the film’s reception or if Elon has other plans, such as making a bid for TikTok itself.
