Google has introduced a suite of new tools called ‘Skills’ into its Google Chrome browser. These are repeatable AI prompts that users can run with a simple keyboard shortcut, allowing for quick and customisable tasks such as recipe optimisation or job evaluation.
The Skills feature utilises Gemini, the chatbot integrated into Chrome, to deliver on these prompts. Users can either create their own skills using Gemini or utilise one of the pre-made options provided by Google in its library which boasts over 50 presets. These range from summarising YouTube videos to enhancing recipes with higher protein content.
The process is straightforward: users open the Gemini sidebar, type a forward slash followed by the skill they want to run, and then allow Gemini to analyse your browser tabs according to the preset parameters for that particular skill. For example, you can ask it to maximise the protein intake of a recipe while preserving its taste.
Despite its potential benefits, users should be prepared for some teething issues as this technology is still in its early stages. However, it could prove invaluable to those looking to streamline their online workflows and save time on repetitive tasks.
For those who prefer not to use these AI features, there’s a way to disable the Ask Gemini button via Chrome settings, but rest assured, you won’t be giving up much if you do.
