Microsoft is reportedly bringing its massive Surface Hub touchscreen displays to a close, with the Surface Hub 3 set to be the last model in the line-up. The extra-large devices, initially priced between $8,000 and $20,000, were designed as digital whiteboards for collaborative office environments but never quite found their place amid the office's shift towards remote work.
The Surface Hub 3 debuted in 2023 with a few updates over its ten-year lifespan, including a modular design that allowed users to replace internal components without having to replace the whole display. Despite these enhancements, Microsoft and third-party sellers will continue selling remaining stock until at least 2027.
The Surface Hub’s legacy lives on through other Microsoft products, but its future is uncertain. With support for driver and firmware updates continuing beyond 2027, users can hope to keep their devices running smoothly even as the Surface Hub becomes a thing of the past.
As we bid farewell to the giant digital whiteboards, the question remains: will we miss them or are they simply a relic of an office era that’s long gone?
