Tim Cook is stepping down as CEO of Apple after a tenure that saw the company grow into a $4 trillion behemoth. Starting September 1st, John Ternus, long-time Apple veteran and key figure in hardware engineering, will take over.
Cook’s reign was marked by innovation in areas like services and wearables. But his vision for mixed reality has so far failed to materialise, with the Apple Vision Pro lagging in consumer adoption.
Known for his methodical approach, Ternus is poised to lead Apple into its next phase. His career at the company spans two decades, including pivotal roles in product design and hardware engineering.
The board lauds Cook’s leadership, noting that he infused integrity and values throughout the company. His departure sees an internal handover rather than a new external hire, ensuring continuity for now.
Cook will remain as executive chairman, bringing wisdom to Apple’s strategies after nearly two decades at the helm. Ternus’ background suggests a focus on product development and repairability, but only time will tell if he can replicate Cook’s success in other areas.
