Latitude has unveiled Voyage, a groundbreaking platform that allows users to design their own text-based adventure games with the aid of AI. With this platform, creators can bring to life entire worlds filled with non-player characters (NPCs) that respond dynamically based on player actions.
The key innovation lies in Latitude’s World Engine, which has taken five years to develop and boasts multiple AI systems capable of narrating actions, managing gameplay, and remembering past interactions. This means NPCs aren’t just static entities but have distinct personalities and backstories, adding depth and realism to the game world.
Unlike traditional RPGs where characters might offer limited options like ‘run’ or ‘fight,’ Voyage offers a myriad of choices that can lead to unique outcomes. For instance, players might find themselves negotiating with a troll about its marital troubles instead of engaging in combat. The platform’s ability to generate over 160,000 unique AI-generated characters each with distinct personalities is truly impressive.
Voyage will soon enter open beta and will offer subscription plans priced at $15, $30, and $50. These plans provide advanced AI features and remove limitations on the number of actions players can take, making it an enticing prospect for both casual and hardcore gamers. While initially designed with all ages in mind, some content may include mature themes.
The launch also comes with a partnership with Google’s AI Futures Fund and notable investors such as Album VC, Griffin Gaming Partners, Midjourney, and NFX. With its innovative approach to AI-driven storytelling, Voyage is set to redefine the way we experience role-playing games.
