Warner Bros.’ bizarre 2023 shelving of Coyote vs. Acme, a live-action/animated film, sparked outrage in the industry and among fans alike. Now, Ketchup Entertainment has released a trailer that promises a brilliant concept: Wile E. Coyote suing ACME for their perpetually unreliable products. The script was penned by James Gunn, with big stars signed up for the main cast.
The film’s original slot in July 2023 was usurped by Barbie, a brilliant film that gave us the summer of “Barbenheimer.” However, Warner Bros. canceled the release to take a tax write-off, much to the chagrin of those invested in the project.
The collective outrage led to Warner Bros. allowing filmmakers to shop Coyote vs. Acme to other studios. Netflix, Amazon and Paramount all submitted bids but were turned down because they didn’t meet the $75–$80 million price range. Will Forte even admitted that he’d assumed the film must be a dud without seeing it, but was blown away by what he saw.
Ultimately, Ketchup Entertainment bought the rights for $50 million – less than Warner Bros.’ original asking price – and will release the film at last. Fans, rejoice: your patience has paid off, if only partially.
