Threads has finally brought its messaging feature to the web, bringing one-on-one and group chats to desktop. This move aligns Threads more closely with rivals such as X and Bluesky, as Connor Hayes, Meta’s head of Threads, announced this week.
The company cites user demand; in July 2025, after introducing DMs, users asked for web-based messaging. Now, the 'Messages' tab on Threads’ web version includes an inbox, a ‘Requests’ section, and search functionality. Users can quickly start new chats or view incoming message requests.
Threads has also added Live Chats to its feature set, with these real-time conversations launching first within the NBA Threads community during playoffs. Up to 150 participants can actively send messages in a chat while others participate in ‘spectator’ mode by reacting and voting on polls.
Since launch, Threads has consistently expanded its platform, adding new features like Live Chats that set it apart from competitors. With messaging now central to the platform, alongside posts and replies, Threads shows no sign of slowing down in its quest for user engagement.
