Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia has hired designer Peter Arnell to lead the U.S. National Design Studio, aiming to overhaul 27,000 government websites and make them more user-friendly.
Arnell’s past work with major brands like Samsung and Pepsi brings a fresh perspective to this unique challenge. 'We’re not rebranding the country,' he explains, 'but ensuring consistent design across all government platforms.'
The team has already streamlined processes such as retirement applications and workflow procedures, reducing complex tasks from months to minutes.
‘Just the perception of a government website being hard makes you give up before you start,’ Gebbia notes. ‘We want citizens empowered to interact with their government effectively.’
The initiative aims to solve common frustrations like navigation issues and page timeouts, ensuring that even the most complex processes are made simple.
