My cat Mira is perfect, and has never done anything wrong—except love walking on laptop keys. Both my MacBook and Kathy’s Windows PC have become battlegrounds for her keyboard exploration.
Mira hides important things by triggering Command-Option-H or Windows-Ctrl-Left/Right arrow key, causing windows to disappear in a panic-inducing manner. But she also teaches us about multiple desktops and accessibility features, like Sticky Keys and FilterKeys.
Screenshotting on a Mac is as simple as Command-Shift-4, but Windows users can do the same with Windows+Shift-S. Mira unwittingly toggles the dock with Command-Option-D, teaching us a handy shortcut while causing temporary confusion.
The most enigmatic trick is when she sits on Kathy’s laptop, rendering the keyboard seemingly non-functional. It turns out, pressing the Shift key five times activates Sticky Keys and holding down the right Shift key for five seconds turns on FilterKeys—both useful features, but not without their quirks.
While it's amusing to see what our tech can do when handled by a cat, perhaps we should also appreciate Mira’s lessons on keyboard shortcuts. But let's train her to avoid those keys next time.
