The arrival of Ferrari’s first electric vehicle is causing quite a stir. Dubbed the Luce, this four-door sedan with five seats marks a significant shift for the iconic marque. While it might not please purists, it could signal the future for luxury carmakers grappling with emissions targets.
Designer Jony Ive and Marc Newson’s LoveFrom studio have given the Luce a distinctive look that nods to past Ferraris while hinting at Apple’s design philosophy. The exterior is sleek but divisive; some see hints of the Lotus Etna, others recall classic ‘90s designs like the 360 and 550.
But it's not just about style. Ferrari had to consider aerodynamics rigorously. Seven years of research went into ensuring minimal drag while maintaining downforce for high-speed stability—a complex challenge that could set a precedent in electric performance cars.
The Luce’s polarizing design might make some contrarians like me appreciate its uniqueness more, but it remains to be seen if this vehicle can bridge the gap between tradition and innovation. For now, it stands as a bold statement from Ferrari.
