Elon Musk’s X platform allows long-form content only through its paid subscribers or businesses. In contrast, the decentralized social networking startup, Bluesky, has recently integrated with Standard.site, enabling users to explore articles, blog posts, and newsletters from a network of AT Protocol-powered apps.
This move marks a significant expansion for Bluesky, allowing it to cater to a broader audience beyond its short-form microblogs. The integration means that content from sites like Leaflet, pckt, and Offprint can now be accessed directly through the Bluesky app as dynamic link cards—a first step towards richer media experiences.
Bluesky’s approach is part of a larger vision for an open social web where data is freely distributable across various clients. This contrasts with X's more siloed model, which currently has 550 million monthly active users. However, Bluesky’s open network offers the potential for content to be read by anyone on compatible apps, regardless of their user base.
Bluesky’s latest update (v1.122) also includes improvements such as a refreshed GIF picker and photo viewer, expanded moderation labels at the account level, and bug fixes for video uploads on iOS devices.
