YouTube is making strides towards becoming a viable podcast app by introducing new features for its Premium subscribers on Android. The latest addition is an 'on-the-go mode' that reconfigures the platform into a more audio-focused layout, complete with larger playback buttons and a timeline showing video chapters.
A speed-up feature also allows users to adjust their listening pace, automating the process of speeding up content during less engaging moments. However, these updates are currently limited to Premium subscribers on Android devices, with iOS versions yet to be rolled out.
YouTube is enhancing its music search function by incorporating podcasts into the Ask Music AI feature. Within the YouTube Music app, users can now engage in chatbot interactions asking for podcast recommendations based on genre or creator preferences.
The move towards podcasts reflects a broader trend as streaming giants like Spotify continue to diversify their content offerings. Whether these updates will significantly alter how people consume audio content remains to be seen.
