Meta is testing a new 'Series' feature for Instagram and Facebook Reels that allows creators to make serialized content easier to follow. Each Reel becomes an episode in a larger story, with its own dedicated hub on the creator’s profile.
This move indicates Meta’s shift towards fostering longer viewing sessions, as opposed to quick scrolling through short-form videos. The feature is aimed at driving repeat visits and building stronger viewer habits, while also offering creators a more organized way to release episodic content such as tutorials or challenges.
Meta hasn’t yet revealed plans for monetizing the series feature but may follow the playbook set by TikTok, which launched its own Series in 2023. This allowed users to purchase access to premium content collections behind a paywall. It’s possible that Meta could adopt a similar approach with its new feature.
For now, Meta is testing the feature with select creators who are already sharing serialized content on Instagram and Facebook. The series feature enables them to bundle all episodes into one tab on their profile, making it easy for viewers to find, watch in order, and stay up-to-date.
