Google Labs has launched an experimental app called Dreambeans, which uses artificial intelligence to curate a daily selection of lifestyle suggestions based on data from your Google services. The app aims to inspire users with a mix of geographical recommendations and news articles, while also providing a counterbalance to the endless scroll of social media.
Product lead Gozde Oznur says Dreambeans will generate 'places to visit, topics to explore, things to try' based on your Google data. For instance, if you’re planning a new pet, it could offer tips on caring for a puppy. The app features around 10 to 14 stories per day designed to spark creativity and lead users out into the real world.
Privacy is key with Dreambeans; only the user has access to their curated stories, which can be deleted at any time. Google also allows users to choose which services are connected to the tool. Oznur adds that the app aims to combat phone addiction by providing a limited number of ideas per day.
The name, Dreambeans, is inspired by how the system processes data while you sleep and hands you inspiration in the morning, much like starting your day with a cup of coffee. Currently, it’s only available for eligible US-based Google AI Ultra subscribers on Android and iOS, but there’s also a waitlist for those with personal Google accounts.
