A couple of weeks ago, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner hinted at a new supercar to replace the legendary R8. Now, the company has revealed the Nuvolari concept in Southern France, just before the Monaco Grand Prix.
The Nuvolari's design is somewhat of a departure from Audi’s current style but remains consistent with the Concept C, a smaller coupe that shares its underpinnings with Porsche's electric Boxster. Under the hood, it uses Lamborghini’s mid-engined platform, specifically the Temerario, which impressed reviewers with its performance and accessibility.
With 987 horsepower (736 kW), the Nuvolari matches Bugatti Veyron levels of power, potentially outperforming even its Italian cousin. This marks a significant shift from the earlier R8, which featured a naturally aspirated V10 behind the cockpit within an aluminum space frame chassis.
The announcement raises questions about what we need in this world—another supercar with incredible speed and engineering prowess or perhaps just more practical vehicles that address real-world needs. For now, it seems Audi is still chasing perfection on the racetrack and beyond.
