Later this year, Apple is set to launch subscription bundles for iPhone apps in conjunction with iOS 27. This move means users can purchase multiple subscriptions as a single bundle, offering convenience and potentially savings.
The changes also introduce Suites, which are sets of non-separable subscriptions that can be purchased together. Expect similarities to current streaming video bundle deals, where services like Apple TV and Peacock combine offerings, but with the potential for more diverse services such as Instagram Plus and Tinder Platinum.
Alongside these app store updates, Apple is addressing other issues, including improving App Store guidelines by removing ‘opportunistic’ apps that don’t update or appeal to customers. The tech giant is also relaxing requirements for Mac App Store developers regarding support for Intel chips in older Macs and will require them to declare if their apps include social media capabilities.
Apple promises additional details on bundles and suites later this summer, closer to the iOS 27 release and other platform updates due in the fall. Whether these changes lead to a more streamlined app experience or just another layer of complexity remains to be seen—until then, we can only hope our wallets don't get any thinner.
