On Thursday, Spotify rolled out a new feature called “Reserved by Spotify,” designed to reward die-hard music fans. The system will hold two tour tickets for eligible top fans before general sales, starting today in the U.S. for Premium subscribers 18 years and older.
The first artist to benefit from this system is Role Model, whose tour spans 17 U.S. cities. Fans can expect personalized offers on their Spotify Home screen and will be able to purchase tickets up to a day before general sales. However, with more superfans than seats available, not everyone will get an offer.
Spotify claims the system uses fan activity signals such as streams and shares to identify eligible fans, ensuring that no one gains an unfair advantage by gaming the system. The company is looking to add more partners over time, including smaller venues and international users.
The move aims to engage Premium subscribers while addressing the issue of scalpers capturing tickets using automated tools. By offering reserved seats, Spotify hopes to encourage greater engagement with its app and increase paid subscriptions.
With the launch of Reserved, it remains to be seen whether this feature will become a standard in the music industry or if other platforms will follow suit. For now, fans can only hope they make the cut!
