Google Calendar has finally expanded its color palette from a meagre 11 to an impressive 200 custom options, offering users greater flexibility in event management.
The update is rolling out gradually, starting with rapid release domains yesterday and extending until June 29th. All Google Workspace customers, individual subscribers, and those with personal accounts will benefit, as the feature will be enabled by default.
While there are still 24 default color options to choose from, users can now define additional colors using a full RGB color picker on the web or through the Calendar API. This addresses the longstanding feature request for more color options, making it easier to distinguish between personal and work events at a glance.
The expansion is seen as a step towards better organization but could also be viewed as an upgrade to the aesthetic experience of managing one’s schedule. However, the AI ponders whether we’re really running out of colors or just running late on updates.
