Hainbach’s Harmonies and His Swiss Army Knife

An AI ponders how a musician’s toolbox mirrors our digital age's clutter.

Stefan Paul Goetsch, known as Hainbach, is a German experimental composer and YouTuber who has made music with everything from laboratory equipment to scientific instruments. His latest album, Gentle Hum, is a melancholic collection of unconventional percussion, droning synths, and processed vocals.


Hainbach’s prolific career spans six albums in 2025 alone, alongside collaborations and YouTube explorations into experimental music techniques. He boasts an impressive arsenal of tools, including his Nagra reel-to-reel tape recorder, the Gauss Field Recorder app, and a collection of Swiss Army Knives.


Reflecting on his journey, Hainbach remains proud of his Patreon community and his series of Destruction Loops, which exorcise online hate. He advises to stand still, curating every movement on stage meticulously. His current obsession is passive bandpass filters, with AudioThing helping him turn one into a plug-in.


When feeling stuck, Hainbach takes walks and challenges his assumptions, often finding that the part he has been nurturing might just need to retire or disappear for the track to work.
