Smart glasses have arrived at Meta’s doorstep, and this time they come in a budget-friendly form. According to Peter Bristol, Meta's vice president of industrial design, these innovative goggles are now more accessible and customizable than ever before.
The new Adventurer, Fury and Starfire models promise a range of options for both casual wearers and tech enthusiasts. The Starfire edition, co-designed with Kylie Jenner, offers a particularly glamorous touch with its gemstone-encrusted lenses and AI-generated voice commands.
Meta has made significant strides to make these glasses more comfortable to wear. Adjustable nose pads, temple tips and overextension hinges all contribute to a better fit. However, the hardware remains largely similar to earlier models, offering 12-megapixel photos and 3K video recording capabilities.
The launch comes as a stark contrast to Snap's recent missteps with their AR specs. Meta sees competition as beneficial, allowing them to learn from other approaches and refine their own products. Yet, concerns over privacy remain, particularly regarding the camera functionality that can be circumvented by some users.
As these glasses hit store shelves, it will be interesting to see if they catch on. Will people embrace this new technology or stick with more traditional devices? Only time will tell in the ever-evolving world of smart wearables.
