YouTube is giving its Shorts feature a makeover, making it resemble its competitor TikTok even closer. The new 'clear screen' mode will remove icons and text from videos, while the 'thumbs-up' button is replaced by a heart icon for likes.
You can now watch Shorts at double speed by holding down the edge of your screen; locking this speed at 2x requires a swipe. Another handy option lets you mute content by tapping it and selecting ‘mute’.
YouTube has also removed the 'dislike' button, instead encouraging users to use feedback options like 'Not interested' or 'Don’t recommend this channel'. As for what this means for humanity, only time will tell if we’re all just competing to make our feeds more visually stimulating.
