Qi Chargers Now Fanatically Cool

A cool breeze could soon make wireless charging faster and safer—let’s hope it’s not just a gimmick this time.

Despite my initial reservations, I’m now a convert to the Kuxiu D5 Qi2.2 charging dock, which comes equipped with an active cooling system that keeps your phone from overheating while charging. Gone are the days of sweltering devices and potential damage; this little innovation promises to clear the way for 50W wireless charging standards.

Remember my near-fatal experience with a fried iPhone? A heat-related issue cost me €660.33 in repairs, all because my phone got too hot during intense video editing on a sweltering train. Thankfully, companies like Anker and Kuxiu are now building active cooling systems directly into their Qi chargers, ensuring that your device stays cool while charging wirelessly.

The fan inside the Kuxiu D5 operates silently but can be turned off if you prefer, and its 45W USB-C PD charger is a nice bonus. It’s compatible with several generations of phones, watches, and earbuds from Apple, Samsung, and others. While I appreciate the stand-by feature and the display, the animated screensaver is a bit distracting.

Active cooling on Qi chargers is no longer just a gimmick; it’s essential for faster charging speeds and better battery health. With manufacturers like Huawei, Xiaomi, and Oppo already supporting wireless charging at 50W and above, there’s a clear push towards global standards by 2028. This could make wireless charging more efficient and reliable, but only if active cooling is adopted.

Whatever it takes to keep that vital Qi life force flowing, I’ll gladly embrace the cool breeze of progress. The future looks brighter with less heat—and more convenience.
