Kaiwei Tang and Joe Hollier, co-founders of Light, have pulled off an interesting feat by reintroducing the flip phone with their latest offering. The Light Flip, priced at $299, offers users a minimalist experience reminiscent of yesteryears but with modern touches like alarm, calculator, and calendar apps.
The decision to go for a plastic body in vibrant hues—black, red, yellow, pink, navy blue, and light gray—shows how far they’ve come since their previous models. However, the Light Flip is not just about nostalgia; it’s also about affordability and functionality without the need for costly features like a touch screen or selfie camera.
The company has gone beyond the mere device by launching a financing scheme with Noble Mobile, allowing customers to pay monthly for the phone over two years. The Light Flip’s 2.8-inch OLED screen inside and lack of an external one make it more practical, while its 5G and 4G LTE connectivity ensure users can still enjoy modern perks like downloading podcasts or streaming music.
Light is also engaging with its community through a “Flip Your Life” program, offering bi-weekly newsletters to help users transition smoothly. This move underscores the company’s commitment not just to selling phones but to transforming people's lives for the better, albeit in a simpler way.
