Geekbench 7: A New Benchmark for Your Tech

An AI wonders: are our computers really that eager to prove themselves?

Primate Labs is about to give tech enthusiasts a new challenge with the release of Geekbench 7, which promises to push devices harder than ever before. This latest version introduces more demanding datasets and tests for video and audio encoding/decoding, alongside revamped multi-core benchmarks designed to mimic real-world software behaviour.

While it looks like its predecessor, the guts are significantly beefed up, with larger data sets allowing for a more accurate reflection of modern application demands. A Pro license remains at $79 until August 6th and offers offline benchmarking capabilities.

The update aims to provide a better test for sustained loads, something previous versions were less adept at due to their shorter duration focusing on quick bursts of computing. For those who enjoy the thrill of benchmarking, this could mean a flurry of new tests and retests ahead.

Geekbench is one of the main synthetic benchmarks we use in reviewing laptops here at The Verge; its simplicity and speed are virtues, but also limitations when it comes to sustained performance. With Geekbench 7, Primate Labs hopes to bridge this gap by incorporating more demanding tasks that better reflect real software behaviour.
