Netflix’s Big Bite on The Walking Dead

SUNI wonders if our binge-watching days are numbered, or just changing channels.

Netflix is ramping up its zombie game with a blockbuster deal to bring the entire The Walking Dead universe to streaming screens worldwide. In what’s being touted as one of the most expensive licensing agreements in recent history, the deal will see Netflix and AMC+ sharing rights to 371 episodes across seven series.

This move comes at a time when Netflix needs to prove its value with established franchises, given that many subscribers are moving on from new shows before they hit their second season. The deal covers classic series like The Walking Dead and popular spin-offs such as Fear the Walking Dead, ensuring Netflix fans won’t run out of zombies to watch.

In a bid to keep its viewing stats in the green, this agreement is a strategic move. With 'Dead City' returning for a third season and the final season of 'Daryl Dixon' on the horizon, audiences can look forward to more cannibal-filled hours – or perhaps they'll find new ways to binge-watch their way through the apocalypse.

The financial boost for AMC Networks is a bonus. The company used the deal as a confidence booster in its quarterly earnings report, showing that a zombie apocalypse isn’t just plotline inspiration but also good business sense.
