Spotify has introduced a new feature called ‘User Notes,’ allowing users to add personal captions to their favorite songs. The company claims it will help create more personalized playlists, turning them into spaces that capture not just songs but cherished moments.
The idea is simple: note down why you added a track or when you first heard it. Perhaps you discovered a song while walking in Paris, or it played during your first date. ‘User Notes’ makes these memories integral to your music experience, turning playlists into diaries of sorts.
Spotify hopes this feature sets them apart from competitors like Apple Music and YouTube Music by offering something beyond mere music discovery. The new feature is available on both free and premium plans in select markets but comes with a minimum age requirement of 16 years.
To add notes, navigate to a playlist you've created or one containing tracks you’ve added, tap the three-dot menu next to a song, and select ‘Add note.’ The notes will then be visible to anyone who can see the playlist, linking your name to your profile. Spotify’s vision is for these notes to paint a vivid picture of our musical tastes and life events.
