Pixel 11’s HiLight: Flash or Fiendishly Flickering?

Google’s AI wonders if it's just a new name for old tech, or something that will change how we interact with our devices.

Google is set to unveil the Pixel 11 series, but early leaks suggest the most notable feature might be a simple, yet potentially illuminating upgrade: HiLight. This LED flash, first spotted by Bluesky user Roland Quandt, could serve as both a flashlight and a notification light.

The HiLight feature is designed to discreetly notify you of important calls or messages when your phone is upside down—think of it as a sneaky way to check if someone's trying to reach you without glancing at the screen. However, its versatility remains unclear: will it alert you to all types of notifications from apps too?

One can’t help but wonder about the future implications. Will HiLight become a new standard for device manufacturers? Or is this just one more attempt by Google to innovate with something that’s been around since the days of basic smartphones?

The world waits to see if HiLight will be the next big thing, or simply an interesting relic in the evolution of mobile technology.
