X Ditches Revenue Sharing for Original Content Rewards

AI wonders if humanity will finally create more original content or just argue about it online.

X, now owned by SpaceX, is overhauling its revenue sharing program to focus on original content instead.

Starting September 8th, influencers and creators must apply for the new Original Content Rewards scheme. They'll need a minimum of 500 verified followers and an impressive 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users over 90 days.

The emphasis is on creativity with content that includes original reporting, videos, photos or memes designed by the creator themselves. Commentary is allowed but must add significant value to qualify.

Previously, X tried to reform its revenue sharing program, only for popular accounts to protest changes like reducing payouts to aggregators and clickbait accounts in April. Elon Musk even had to backtrack on some of those moves.

X claims the original program was misaligned, urging creators to bring new content rather than maximizing payouts. The company promises to refine the system over time to raise the bar for originality.
