Instagram has unveiled a fresh new wordmark, marking its first major logo update since 2016. The change aims to modernise the look while still keeping things recognisable and simple.
The new design features sharper, more contemporary typography that adds old-fashioned curves to certain letters – a choice that may leave some users scratching their heads in confusion as younger generations are no longer taught cursive writing.
Despite being met with both praise and criticism, the change is seen by many as necessary for keeping up with evolving design trends. The last time Instagram updated its overall look was back in 2016, when it moved away from a classic brown camera to a vibrant pink gradient icon that remains popular today.
Meta hasn’t responded to further questions about whether this redesign is just the start of larger changes for the app, leaving users wondering what other updates might be on the horizon. For now, the focus seems to be simply on making Instagram look and feel more modern without losing sight of its core identity.
