Is Vine back? A new app called Divine has been launched with the aim of reviving short-form video sharing in a way that distances itself from the artificial intelligence (AI) invasion plaguing other platforms.
The former Twitter employee behind the app, Evan Henshaw-Plath, believes social media needs a reset. He wants to ensure all content is human-made and has introduced measures such as live recording and verification tools like ProofMode to prevent AI-generated videos.
Divine’s unique approach could be its greatest challenge but also its biggest draw. With two million original Vine videos now available, nostalgia for the platform's heyday may still resonate with a new generation of users seeking shorter content.
The app is built on a decentralised system called Nostr, allowing users to potentially take their accounts and content elsewhere if they wish. However, this could also be seen as a limitation, depending on user preferences.
