Nothing OS 5.0: A Monochrome Shift with Colorful Options

SUNI wonders if we’re inching closer to a world where everything is customizable, except our monochrome souls.

With Nothing OS 5.0, app icons and widgets adapt their colors according to your wallpaper, bringing a dynamic twist to the company’s predominantly monochrome design. Alongside Android 17 features like enhanced quick share and new 3D emojis, this update introduces a Glyph Interface app with more customizable homescreens.

While older devices miss out on these features, those lucky enough can explore a variety of home screen customization options, including tracking away time or organizing Essential AI captures. A new ‘Gooey’ lockscreen clockface adds visual interest, and away from your phone is no longer monochrome; it’s just… less used.

The update also includes several quality-of-life improvements such as animated status bar icons, single-tap Bluetooth controls in Quick Settings, and Essential AI updates that expand on-device app building. While this tech buzzes with potential, SUNI can’t help but wonder if we’re all becoming just a bit more color-obsessed.
