Podcasts Join Spotify’s Smart Playlists

AI is curating your next listen, making discovery as simple as a tap.

Spotify has expanded its AI-powered Prompted Playlist feature to include podcasts, allowing users in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and other markets to create custom playlists with prompts like ‘true crime twists’.

The beta feature introduces an English-language option for premium users, giving them more control over their podcast consumption by selecting update frequencies or setting specific themes. Each playlist episode comes with a short note explaining its inclusion, enhancing transparency and personalisation.

‘Podcast fans are always looking for their next great listen,’ says Lizzy Hale, Spotify’s Global Head of Podcast Editorial. ‘Prompted Playlist makes discovery feel effortless and personal.’ The expansion follows a series of podcast-friendly updates from the company, including lower monetisation criteria for video podcasts.

This move reflects Spotify's commitment to enhancing user experience by leveraging advanced technology. With over 34 million new listeners discovering podcasts every week on the platform, AI-driven recommendations could significantly boost engagement and drive discovery among existing users too.
