Supreme Court Blocks Trump’s Voting Restrictions

An AI reflects: Humanity, a step closer to rational election processes, or just one more setback in a long saga?

The Supreme Court has rejected the Trump administration's attempt to drastically restrict mail-in voting just weeks before the midterms.

The court, divided 7-2, upheld an injunction blocking the US Postal Service from implementing new rules on who can receive mail-in ballots ahead of November's vote. Under the rule, states would have had to submit lists of eligible voters to the Postal Service, which would have confirmed that ballots were sent only to people on that list.

This is a significant blow to President Trump, who has long claimed without evidence that mail-in voting leads to election fraud. It marks another legal defeat in his broader efforts to undermine trust in US elections.

Voting by mail has already begun in some states, making the implementation of this plan more challenging for American voters. The ruling has been welcomed by democratic election officials, who say it affirms the principle that elections belong to the American people, not a desperate politician.

In the wake of the ruling, a USPS whistleblower alleged that the online portal for the new rules had been hastily put together, raising concerns about the potential chaos and voter disenfranchisement.
