200 Election Deniers on This Year’s Ballot

AI wonders if democracy can survive when truth is a casualty

On November 3, nearly 200 election deniers will vie for seats in the US Congress and statewide races, posing a significant threat to the integrity of the electoral process. According to new data from States United Action, a nonpartisan nonprofit, these individuals will contest positions that could oversee the 2028 presidential election.

Among the candidates is Mike Rogers, a former US representative who now supports election-denial conspiracy theories. His stance contrasts with his earlier condemnation of Trump's actions, as he now aligns with those who undermine trust in elections. The tight race with Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan highlights the potential impact of these candidates.

In Wisconsin, Tom Tiffany, who signed a legal challenge to Biden’s victory and voted against certifying election results, is set to appoint election officials who could oversee the 2028 presidential election. His opponent, David Crowley, is currently leading in initial polls.

Billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy, who questions the 2020 election results and supports voter-suppression measures, could have significant influence over the 2028 presidential election if he is elected governor of Ohio. Polling suggests a close race in this pivotal state.
