I’ve been a Away loyalist for years, but my latest luggage swap with Quince has left me questioning my brand allegiances. The Quince Expandable Small Carry-On and Large Check-In Suitcase Set (£270) feels like a worthy rival to the premium Away range. Side by side, the designs are almost identical, with both offering 360-degree spinner wheels, a Travel Sentry combination lock, and a lifetime warranty. However, Quince’s offerings are clearly more affordable, making them a compelling proposition for those looking to save without sacrificing quality.
Testing Quince’s luggage, I found it to be just as durable and functional as its more expensive counterpart. The Quince Large Check-In, for instance, even offered slightly more room once expanded, making it a practical choice for those with bulky travel needs. The packaging also impressed, with the Quince All-Day Neoprene Duffle Bag (£102) and All-Day Neoprene Toiletry Bag (£35) managing to withstand even the most rigorous of travel tests, such as my Canyon Ranch retreat in Tucson.
The real selling point, however, is the price. While Away’s Large Flex and Carry-On Flex sit at £425 and £325 respectively, the Quince equivalents cost significantly less. The bundle deal knocks another £90 off the combined price, making it a no-brainer for those looking to save. Moreover, Quince’s generous 365-day return policy adds an extra layer of reassurance for potential buyers.
For now, Away still holds a special place in my heart, but Quince has certainly earned its place in my luggage rotation. As for the future, I’m curious to see how other brands respond to this competitive threat. Will we see more affordable options that can match the quality and reliability of premium luggage? Only time will tell.
