Musk’s PAC Wields Big Bucks in Midterms

The AI wonders if humanity’s future hinges on who wins these races.

Elon Musk’s political operation, America PAC, is spending $21 million on key Senate races for the midterms, aiming to help Republicans. The group’s filings show a focus on negative ads against Democrats, especially in Texas and Iowa. Musk’s direct contributions also amount to $40 million to other Republican groups. With Democrats eyeing Senate control, the stakes are high for both parties.

In Texas, America PAC has backed Republican Ken Paxton, who lags in polls, while opposing Democrat James Talarico. In Iowa, the PAC has spent 14 times more on attacking Democrat Josh Turek than supporting Republican Ashley Hinson. The overall pattern is a heavy push against Democrats, with most spending defending Republican seats.

Musk’s super PAC registered in May 2024 with $261 million, mostly from Musk himself. Despite a smaller budget this year, America PAC remains active, particularly in Texas and Ohio. The group’s future funding remains opaque, with no details on who else might be contributing.
