Reports are mounting that users of Ledger crypto wallets have been hit by a massive supply chain attack, potentially involving a tiny spy implant in some devices.
The suspected implant, a small circuit board inserted beneath the screen, allegedly intercepts seed passphrases during setup, allowing hackers to steal funds from hundreds of wallets.
So far, it’s unclear whether the Ledger systems themselves are compromised or if the issue is limited to wallets sold through the reseller CryptoBillis, primarily affecting users in Southeast Asia. Ledger has advised customers to check their wallets for signs of tampering.
While the tech world grapples with this new threat, it raises questions about the security of our digital assets and the supply chains that protect them. Could this be just the tip of the iceberg?
