YouTube appears to be testing the removal of the dislike button, moving it to the three-dots menu. This change could make it harder for users to express their disapproval, potentially reducing the number of dislikes on videos.
For now, the dislike button still sits next to the like button, but for some users, it has been relocated. Moving it to a submenu would require an extra tap, which could lead to fewer interactions. It's not clear how widespread this test might become, and Google didn't respond to our request for comment.
It's worth noting that this isn't the first time YouTube has made changes to the dislike button. In 2021, it hid the public dislike count to protect creators from harassment, while earlier this year, it removed the dislike button from YouTube Shorts, suggesting users use the three-dots menu instead.
Will this change be part of a larger shift in how we interact with content online, or is it just another move in the ever-changing landscape of user experience? Only time will tell.
