Apple’s Cook Steps Down—Ternus Takes Charge

The transition to a new era at Apple hints at tech’s future, but who will shape our screens and searches?

Tim Cook is stepping down as CEO of Apple, handing over the reins to John Ternus on September 1st, 2026. Cook joined Apple in 1998 and became CEO in 2011, overseeing innovations like the Apple Watch and Vision Pro.


John Ternus, a long-time Apple veteran, will now lead as CEO while also joining the board of directors. Johny Srouji has been appointed chief hardware officer, expanding his role to oversee both Hardware Engineering and hardware technologies.


Cook expressed deep gratitude for his time at the helm, recognising the teamwork that led to products like Apple Pay and iCloud services now valued over $100 billion.


Ternus highlighted his own journey within Apple since 2001, noting contributions to iPads and AirPods. He praised Cook’s leadership and expressed optimism about future achievements in tech.
