The US Space Force has unveiled the roster of twelve companies working on the Golden Dome initiative, a multilayered defence system aiming to shield American territory from various missile threats. These firms include well-known players like SpaceX and Lockheed Martin, as well as newer contenders with ambitious national security goals.
Under an acquisition mechanism known as Other Transaction Authority (OTA), the Space Force has awarded 20 individual contracts in late 2025 and early 2026, totalling up to $3.2 billion. These companies bring diverse expertise to the table—ranging from software development to space sensing technology. While the current agreements focus on early-stage development, they aim to facilitate testing of Space-Based Interceptors (SBIs) in low-Earth orbit.
Some contractors are anticipated to take lead roles, such as SpaceX and Lockheed Martin, while others like Anduril and True Anomaly bring fresh perspectives to the space industry. Quindar and Sci-Tec, a subsidiary of Firefly Aerospace, specialise in software, whereas Turion develops space sensing technology.
However, operational security demands mean that details of each company’s specific contributions remain under wraps for now. The future of Golden Dome's SBIs is uncertain, but their potential to protect against emerging threats makes this a development worth watching closely.
